Chisholm & Winch is set to make spending a penny a showstopping experience for nightclubbers in Camden as part of the £100 million refurbishment of the Koko Club.

The historic venue, formerly known as the Camden Palace, has played host to some of the world’s most famous entertainers over the decades, including The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Madonna and Lady Gaga. Following fire damage shortly before the pandemic struck, the club’s owners decided to combine repairs with a complete refurbishment, which will see extensive remodelling and upgrades throughout the building.

Working for Make One Group, Chisholm & Winch has been contracted to deliver a 17-week programme to update the toilets and ancillary service areas on the lower ground floor. Following strip out, the project involves a complete refit, including bespoke vanity units and cubicles, second fix M&E, including new sanitaryware, and tiling of both floors and walls.

The refurbishment will be delivered by our in-house team with Chisholm & Winch’s well-honed workmanship and attention to detail. The joinery required for the cubicles must be delivered with millimetre precision, due to the layout of the heritage building. Meanwhile, all tiling will be done by hand, including individual installation of 25mm2 mosaic tiles to the floor and hand-made Italian tiles to the walls.

The Chisholm & Winch team is working alongside the M&E contractor responsible for the first fix plumbing installation to ensure rapid progress on the project and co-ordinate the location of pipework connections with sanitaryware requirements.

Managing Director, Simon Castle said: “This refurbishment will create a nightclub bathroom like no other; fitting for such a legendary venue. With the high-end materials involved, we must avoid any wastage while delivering an installation worthy of a five-star hotel.

“The experience on our team and our track record in carrying out refurbishments in prestige environments means that we are an ideal choice for a project of this nature.”
